Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located?

We are located in the Wayside building on Main St., which is located across from the library of the center of Norfolk.

Do you take insurance?

We are in network with various insurance plans. However if we are not in your insurance network we can submit claims on behalf of our patients to the out of network insurance plans.

Are you taking new patients?

New patients are always welcome in our practice and we look forward to addressing you dental needs.

Will I need x-rays?

We recommend a full set of x-rays every 5 years and bitewing x-rays every year. Most insurance companies cover all x-ray costs. If you are a new patient to our office you can bring your old x-rays with you to your first visit or we can take a new set of x-rays.

How long does it take for me to get an emergency appointment?

We leave time available everyday for emergency appointments. Generally, you should be able to get the emergency appointments the same day if you are in discomfort.

How do you ensure the safety of patients?

Infection control in our office is very important to us. We protect our patients and ourselves by maintaining sterilization and cross contamination processes using the standards recommended by the American Dental Association (ADA), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and by having yearly training updates and monthly meetings to review new standards.

Am I a candidate for sedation dentistry?

People who have high fear, traumatic dental experiences and complex dental problems are good candidates for sedation. Also if you want to get a large amount of work done in one visit you should consider sedation.

Will I be unconscious?

No, you are in a deeply relaxed state.

Will someone need to accompany me?

Yes, you will need someone to drive you to the office and back home. You will also need someone to stay with you for the rest of that day.

How does sedation work?

In order for you to be sedated you will take a small pill one hour prior to your appointment.

Don't Forget to Floss!

Clean between teeth daily with floss or an interdental cleaner. Decay-causing bacteria can hide between teeth where toothbrush bristles can't reach. Flossing helps remove plaque and food particles from between teeth and under the gum line.

Visit Our Office Regularly!

Take good care of your smile. Remember to visit the dentist regularly for professional cleanings and oral exams.

Mouthwash Is Important, Too!

Brushing and flossing may not be enough. The ADA now recommends using an antimicrobial mouthwash to reduce plaque and prevent gingivitis.
